The NGI Open Source Foundation (NOSF) is a new initiative by Innovation & Entrepreneurship Development Cell of Jawaharlal College of Engineering & Technology, with an objective of protecting and promoting open source software, development and communities, championing software freedom in society through education, collaboration, and infrastructure, stewarding the open source. The NOSF is supported by Kerala Start-up Mission (KSUM).
The team NOSF is thankful to Adv. Dr. P. Krishnadas (Chairman & Managing Trustee, NGI), Dr. P Krishnakumar (CEO & Secretary, NGI), Dr. V P Sukumaran Nair (Principal, JCET) and Shri. M Srinivas Nair (Administrative Manager, JCET) for their endless support and encouragement towards NOSF initiative. Also, we would like to thank all the staff and student coordinators of IEDC-JCET for their time and effort to launch NOSF.
Open source software is a software that can be freely used and shared (in modified or unmodified form) by anyone. Open source software is made by many people, and distributed under licenses. The NOSF will give an opportunity for our students to discover the wide variety of open source applications, from productivity applications to calendaring or email software, and learn more about the benefits of personal use. The events and workshops organized under NOSF will be open to all students, open source software enthusiasts, working personnel and freelancers. All the participants will be the part of NOSF Developer Community.
The concept of NOSF was an idea of a 3rd year Electronics & Communication student named Mr. Jiss Anto during the academic year 2015. Since he is a passionate guy he didn’t gave up. He nurtured the concept and came up with an articulation about NOSF during his final year. On completion of the B.Tech course in June 2017, Mr. Jiss Anto joined in NGI as System Administrator and now working in JCET campus. He is also one of the coordinators of IEDC activities in JCET. The NOSF comes into reality supported by IEDC-JCET.
